How to Make a Fruit Platter | Best Fruit Platter Video #desert #fruit
This is How to Make a Fruit Platter. Fruits best suited are these variety of melons, best if sized similarly, used as the base fruits; watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe
The tools you will need are; very sharp knife to slice thinly keeping same thickness, sharpener, cleaning liquid (vinegar/water solution), towel, cutting board
Clean the mirror base using the liquid solution and towel, be sure to wipe well so that you have no smudges or streaks on the base
Base Fruit -To prepare the base fruits begin by trimming rind, cut to establish a safe flat base to hold fruit on your cutting board and begin cutting thin slices maintaining same thickness when cutting slices
Watermelon -Cut thru the watermelon into 2 equal parts, after removing the rind, with the flat side of the melon placed onto your cutting board, begin to slice thinly, again maintaining equal thickness of slices throughout
Knife Guide -To move/place the sliced prepared fruit, with the knife blade as your guide, lift fruit and place onto the mirror base. Once the fruit it placed and your remove your knife, apply some pressure on the sliced fruit grouping so that the slices will fan.
Pattern -Continue to lift and place the prepared sliced fruit onto the base in the pattern shown…following a symmetrical pattern, beginning with placement in the 4 corners and repeating the pattern with the different fruits. Consider placement of contrasting coloured fruits side by side. For example, darker coloured fruits beside light coloured fruits…….
Fill Gaps -Once your base fruits are placed, there will be gaps on your base so we will fill in the gaps with other fruits to complete the base of our platter. Such fruits are; oranges, kiwi and pineapple
Oranges -We start with the oranges, to get a perfect round, we will show you best to cut an orange. Then you will lift with the knife blade and place on base, filling a gap, and fanning.
Kiwi -And now onto the kiwi…As you see we maintain consistency with thin slices of a same size round.
Pineapple -For the pineapple, this is how a pineapple is cut…..Continue with placement and fanning……It is all about the fanning……
Adoring -For the finishing touches, we will use other fruits to adorn the platter. Fruits such as; strawberries, gooseberries, blueberries, raspberries and kiwi cut into a ‘flower’ shape
Kiwi Flower -To make a kiwi flower, use a smaller knife an it’s tip to slice into the kiwi in this continues zig zag pattern around the middle circumference of the kiwi. There is no need to be precise with the zig zag cuts….providing you cut all around the fruit and make sharp cuts, the fruit will present as 2 halves and when you gently pull apart, you are left with 2 kiwi flowers.
Chocolate Cup -The berries will adorn the platter as you place at random onto the platter or if you use to fill in smaller gaps. Using the chocolate cup as the vessel to hold berries in the centre is another way to adorn your platter.
Dipped Strawberries -Use of the chocolate dipped strawberries is the final touch
YOU now have a beautiful fruit platter to serve at gatherings and special celebrations. A creative labour of love!
