This is the famous one seen in the Grand Canyon, discovered by John Wesley Powell in 1869. It marks a gap of about 1.2 billion years between the ancient Precambrian Vishnu Basement Rocks and the much younger Cambrian Tapeats Sandstone. This missing time represents a long period of erosion and non-deposition, leaving a dramatic contrast between the tilted, older rocks and the flat-lying younger ones.
