Alaskan Bush Pilot tells us how to land his Otter beside a remote river, Kongakut

In July 1995 I joined a small group of adventuresome people to fly into the head waters of the Kongakut river, in the very Northeast corner of Alaska. We would float down the river -- but there are no airports anywhere nearby. Bush pilots found a gravel bar beside the river -- it is flat, but rather short. There were two airplanes in our group; a Cessna 185 and an Otter made by De Havilland. Our Alaskan Otter bush pilot tells us how he goes about deciding when he is ready to land.
