When to follow up after your teacher interview

Over the past few years I’ve supported hundreds of new teachers in getting their teaching position. 👩🏻‍🏫

And one of the most common questions I get is how/when to follow up.

So let’s dive into it ⬇️

01. When should I follow up after my teacher interview?

I recommend following up within 1 week of your interview. ✨

One of the questions I ALWAYS recommend you ask at the end of the interview is: “What can I expect the next step in the interview process to be?”

This was the question I asked that led to two different districts offering my the job DURING the interview.

If they tell you they will reach out by a certain date, make sure to follow up that following business day.

02. What do I say when I follow-up?

Here’s one of the templates I have inside my Teacher Interview Bundle:

“Dear (Admin or District),

I hope you’re doing great! I wanted to thank you again for the opportunity to interview for the [Position] at [School/District]. It was such a pleasure to learn more about [something specific you remember from the interview], and I truly enjoyed our conversation.

The more I think about it, the more excited I am about the possibility of contributing to [School/District]’s mission of [Mission here]. Your commitment to [mention a value or goal of the school/district] really resonates with me, and I feel that my experience in [insert experience here] would be a great fit to help support these goals.

I understand you’re still in the process of evaluating candidates, but I just wanted to remind you that I’m still very interested in this position! If you need anything else from me or if there are any updates, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks again for considering me, and I look forward to hearing about the next steps.

Best Wishes,

(Your Name)”
