Naval Air Station Lakehurst - Home of the Dirigibles

Nestled in the pine barrens of New Jersey, Naval Air Station Lakehurst (NAS Lakehurst) was once the epicenter of American lighter-than-air aviation. Known for its association with dirigibles, or airships as their almost commonly known as, the base played a crucial role in the development, testing, and operation of airships throughout the early to mid-20th century. While Lakehurst is most infamous as the site of the Hindenburg disaster, its contributions to aviation history extend far beyond that single tragic event.
