Tribeca Grill
Tribeca Grill By WhereTraveler ®
The famed Robert De Niro/Drew Nieporent collaboration offers robust American fare and a Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning, international wine list in a historic former warehouse with high ceilings, exposed brick, and a warm vibe.
Since 1990, Tribeca Grill has played a starring role in the vibrant downtown New York City dining scene. Owned by famed restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, the Grill provides a quintessential NYC dining experience, enhanced with a Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning wine list, and great people-watching.
There are many reasons why a restaurant stands the test of time. Certainly, the legendary list of investors including Bill Murray, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Ed Harris, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Lou Diamond Phillips created immediate interest. Epic parties and special events have been held at Tribeca Grill for numerous luminaries including Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Jay Z, Bono, Tony Bennett, Billy Joel, Julian Schnabel, Yogi Berra, Julius Irving, Aaron Rogers, and Sloane Stephens. The restaurant regularly hosts film premieres and wine dinners, with notable commemorative events for the 1973 World Champion New York Knicks, the Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers, MTV, Oscar Robertson & NBA Legends, the Democratic National Convention, Tribeca Film Festival, The Innocence Project, and the Exoneration Initiative, among many others. Many notable musicians have also performed at Tribeca Grill, including Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Jackson Browne, Donovan, The Rascals, The Turtles, Southside Johnny, Wynton Marsalis, and G.E. Smith. The restaurant’s party facilities are elegant and inviting, with an authentic “downtown” feel.

Tribeca Grill occupies the first two floors of the building that houses the Tribeca Film Center. It was originally the Martinson Coffee Factory. The beautiful mahogany bar at the center of the restaurant has a little bit of magic and a whole lot of history. It was first at Jack Dempsey’s Bar & Restaurant, at the Brill Building in the heart of Tin Pan Alley, where many great songs were composed. The next stop was the famed Maxwell’s Plum Restaurant, a popular and flamboyant Upper East Side destination. Upon becoming the centerpiece of Tribeca Grill, it’s a place for guests from all over the world to enjoy the wonderful ambiance, food, and drink.
All the ingredients that have made Tribeca Grill a beloved destination for almost 30 years are still here. Drew Nieporent is still a presence, meeting and greeting guests. Managing Partner Martin Shapiro has been a steady hand at the helm since the very beginning, as has Wine Director David Gordon. And now Chef Brenton Lee is thrilling diners with inventive menus, vivid flavors, and simply delicious fare.
