Weymouth Quay 01.09.1993. Class 37 - 37421 FAILS ON THE QUAY BRANCH!

I'm not sure how this came about or how I even came to know 37421 would attempt a transverse of the Weymouth Quay line. I got on the train at Westbury and if my camcorder date was correct, 1st September 1993 was a Wednesday.

The usual spot by B&Q as the line joins Commercial Road sees 37421 stop and wait for the British Transport Police to clear the line, then its all over as quickly as it starts. I wasn't aware of another loco waiting at Weymouth so I can only conclude they didn't want to chance a tits up total failure clogging up Weymouth's streets entirely for hours until a rescue loco could be drafted from Westbury or Bournemouth. When the smoke pours out you can also see something, maybe smoke or coolant? coming out the left hand side of the locomotive but pouring downwards? perhaps a fire control system?
