Derivation of the Fermi Golden Rule
In this video, I will explain the meaning of the Fermi Golden Rule, that measures the probability of a quantum state having jumped from one energy eigenstate to another, at a given time.
I start with explaining the meaning of the Golden Rule, and then move on to do a recap of the basic postulates of Quantum Mechanics needed to derive the Rule. I then do a first order perturbation theory on the Schrodinger Equation and, by solving the resulting first order perturbation differential equation, find the Golden Rule. All mathematical steps are done in detail (except for one last step in trivial algebra).
In a next video I will apply the Fermi Golden Rule to find the decay rate of a beta-radiation emitting nucleus.
