Dunkirk Evacuation (1940)

In May 1940, during World War II, over 300,000 Allied soldiers were trapped by German forces on the beaches of Dunkirk, France. With no way to escape by land, Operation Dynamo was launched to evacuate the troops.

The British Royal Navy, along with hundreds of civilian boats—fishing boats, yachts, and ferries—crossed the English Channel under constant air and sea attack to rescue the stranded soldiers. From May 26 to June 4, this daring operation saved a large portion of the British and French armies.

Often called the "Miracle of Dunkirk," this event gave the Allies a chance to regroup and continue fighting. But what if the evacuation had failed? Could the war have taken a different turn?
