A home caregiver is a hero and champion to someone. A professional home caregiver is hero and champion to many.
Any caregiver, whether health care professional or family member, faces a number of serious safety and health hazards. This includes bloodborne pathogens, biological hazards, potential chemical and drug exposures, respiratory hazards, musculoskeletal hazards from lifting and moving patients, workplace violence and stress, among others.
More workers are injured in the healthcare and social assistance industry sector than any other. This industry has one of the highest rates of work related injuries and illnesses.
This safety training video explains five basic hazards faced by home health care professionals and home care providers. The purpose is to to promote a culture that encourages and supports the well-being, health and safety of patients and these important, dedicated caregivers.
