Zayn Mohammed - Attar Mitti, Sandalwood & Musk

"Attar Mitti, Sandalwood & Musk" - a progressive fusion work for Sarode, a North Indian plucked lute played by striking strings with a coconut shell plectrum, and by fretting on the finger nails, rather than finger tips, and the Rebab, a Turkish-classical, bowed, spike-fiddle, as played by the much beloved, great sufi Saint Mevlana Muhammmad Jalaluddin Rumi. The main playing string, like the bow, is made of horse hair. With regards to the title, Attar Mitti is a perfume traditionally distilled in Kannauj, India, which brings about the fragrance of rain & the earth/soil after the rain. In occidental perfumery, this is known as "Petrichor". Sandalwood and Musk are exalting aromatics in attars/ perfumes, such as Attar Mitti itself, and are used in devotional & spiritual practices from many culture's traditions. This track will feature on Zayn's much anticipated upcoming album entitled "The Cat, the Rose & the Sun". This piece is dedicated to the first person to see Zayn be born - Zayn's Godmother, the late Princess of Afghanistan, Sultana Mariam, or as Zayn lovingly called her "Mariam Jaan". She adored music & these instruments, and like Zayn, adored real perfume. May there be gardens of Paradise on her grave & peace on her soul as she soars toward the One.
