The Last Surviving "Honeymooners" Cast Member (Facts)
The Honeymooners starring Jackie Gleason, Art Carney, Audrey Meadows, and Joyce Randolph as two couples living next door to each other that form a special bond tied together by the two husbands constant schemes to get rich together, is a gem amongst classic TV show's. In many ways, it laid the groundwork for countless sitcoms that would follow in its tracks for years to come.
The Honeymooners is a timeless treasure of the golden era of television. Ralph Kramden - aka Jackie Gleason - is a bus driver in New York. He has high hopes of striking it rich and finally having the luxurious life he always dreamed of. He and his best friend Ed Norton (Art Carney) who's a sewer worker are constantly trying to scheme up the means to hit it big.
His loving yet weary wife Alice, played by the lovely Audrey Meadows can only sit back and patiently watch as her husband repeatedly gets checked by reality. She heartfully always lifts him back up when he falls and is consistently a grounding albeit tethering force to reel him back in when he drifts too far out. She is ever loyal despite her husband's shrouded threats of domestic violence - One of these days Alice! POW! Right in the kisser!
Despite lasting only 1 season and 39 episodes - a fate often attributed to the fact the show was filmed live to tape which was a rarity in those days - the show has had enduring appeal and has definitely left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Jackie Gleason is truly one of the greatest TV producers of all time. As a comedic actor, he had impeccable timing and stage presence that seemed larger than life. In fact, the entire cast and crew of The Honeymooners had a special kind of chemistry that would outlive the show's short 39 episode run.
Jackie Gleason, Art Cartney, and Audrey Meadows have all since passed away. That's not much of a surprise considering that the show wrapped up in 1956 and the cast was predominately middle-aged during production.
One surviving honeymooner is still alive though. 95-year-old Joyce Randolph, famous for playing Trixie Norton. She played Trixie in The Jackie Gleason Show as well and despite the fact that she didn't reprise her role on the re-boot and reunion shows, Gleason would always refer to her as the quintessential Trixie.
Facts Verse is going to show you with the help of the only surviving cast member Joyce Randolph several facts that you never knew about the show. Find out why it came to such an abrupt end. What did Jackie have against dress rehearsals and why was their apartment so darn depressing? These questions and more will be answered in this evocative video.
