14 Everyday Things You Didn't Know The Purpose Of!

Items that you never knew the use for! From plate disguised as a box to a tiny hole that serves a giant purpose
9. Tiny Pocket

Jeans, jeans, jeans, why are they so complicated? We already discussed the purpose of your Levis’ rivets. But, another question is “Why do they have a tiny pocket that seems useless?” Well, the quick answer is that it’s there for a reason. This small pouch was initially invented to hold a pocket watch. A Levi Strauss historian named Tracey Panek told Today, “It appears on the oldest pair of waist overalls - the original name for jeans...that date back to 1879.” It was handy for workers back in the day when cell phones weren’t around. The pouches are still included today simply because it’s the classic design… and there’s always a hipster carrying around a pocket watch.

8. Wine Bottom

You’ve probably gotten to the bottom of several wine bottles and still haven’t noticed the indentation on the base. This inward curve actually has a name; it’s called a punt. There isn’t a single specific reason for its presence, but there are several theories. A simple one is that it makes the bottle easier to grasp as the punt provides a resting place for your thumb. Another argument is that it creates the illusion that the wine bottle is larger. So, keep that in mind if you opt for the bigger one… you might not be getting as much as you think. An additional option is that the punt helps to cool your vino faster because it increases the surface area. Apparently, the indentation also creates more pressure resistance, allowing the bottle to hold your champagne with ease.
