Japanese Handmade Paper Technique Workshop in Nepal | Lokta Paper Artisans Documentary

Handmade Lokta paper has been part of Nepal’s cultural heritage for centuries. In February 6th, 2026, Tibetan Handicraft & Paper (THP) organized and hosted a 10-day artisan workshop bringing together paper-makers from different regions of Nepal to learn and exchange knowledge on traditional and contemporary paper making.
This documentary-style film captures the spirit of the workshop — artisans learning new techniques, exchanging knowledge, and working together with raw Lokta fibres harvested from the Himalayan forests. From preparing the fibres to forming the sheets by hand, the video follows the complete process of transforming natural Lokta bark into durable handmade paper.

Lokta paper has been produced in Nepal for centuries and is known for its strength, longevity, and sustainable harvesting practices. Workshops like this support artisan communities while encouraging innovation within traditional craft. The film also offers a glimpse into the atmosphere of the workshop — the rhythm of handmade production, the textures of natural fibres, and the collaborative spirit of artisans working side by side.

Tibetan Handicraft & Paper (THP) continues to support skill development, sustainable production, and the preservation of handmade paper traditions in Nepal.
