Tween - Mixing for use in Alternative Photographic Processes

Tween is widely used in Alternative Photographic Processes to aid in the flow and coating of handmade emulsions. In this video we will mix a solution particularly formulated for platinum and palladium printing although it will work well with all acidic processes. It should be noted that while I prefer a 50% or 1:1 solution, a lot of people use it in a 10% solution. As it is a personal choice and perhaps effected by location and humidity, the formula can be adjusted to fit your preference.

My Formula and Links Below:

Oxalic Acid from Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/uuukbmv

"Tween 20" Polysorbate on Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/t548s5v

Mix a 1% solution of oxalic acid and distilled water and then mix equal parts Tween and solution for a 1:1 solution. Use this as your stock solution and then mix to your preference when creating your emulsion. Typically I use 3-4 drops for a solution to create 1- 8x10 inch image, but different conditions and workflows may dictate more or less.

***Please keep in mind that diluted polysorbate will grow mold after some time. Although this will be hindered by the added acid, it is best to periodically replace your solution with a new one.***
