One Way Wool was Dyed in the 18th Century #shorts

In the 18th century, wool was dyed using various natural ingredients. This demonstration uses Brazilwood.

Wood chips were soaked overnight in water, then boiled for an hour with various chemicals. The chips were strained out. Meanwhile, the yarn was prepared by simmering it with alum. When the dye and the yarn were both ready, the yarn was soaked in the hot dyebath for an hour, letting the color set. Last, the wool was taken out and allowed to dry.
