Uncovering Winter Protection for Agapanthus 2019 4KUHD

While I was removing mulch from my Agapanthus plants I made a discovery. The snow cover we normally get did not happen till mid winter allowing the frost to go deeper and left many plants exposed to the elements. Nature's creature took advantage of this by eating young branches and plants usually covered by snow. Among these were my clumps of Agapanthus or Lily of the Nile which I had been collecting for 20 years or so. Under the protection of a tarp covering a mulch of dry leaves was a nest of baby voles. They were the result of a plentiful food source, which I provided, away from the harsh winds and snow.
