00:05 Supertropicali is the first page of the story of a girl named Serenity. She’s just arrived in LA full of dreams and curiosity, ready to make a splash in this new world…if only in her daydreams.

00:32 Serenity tries on lots of different personalities, trying to figure out who she wants to be in California. The story is co-narrated by an imaginary fairy godmother type character and by Serenity, via the pages of her diary.

00:48 Shooting on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was TREACHEROUS - we had to be very fast and shoot it guerrilla style while people were walking by shouting random things at us, haha.

01:14 We shot this video in Los Angeles with a small crew of a few amazing women and a lot of spontaneity! I picked the different looks and then we matched locations to the type of women they represented.

02:06 My amazing friends Day Toscano and Grace Wiehl teamed up to create and animate all the graphics in this video and I love them!

02:33 My favorite scene to shoot was the bedroom scene. We transformed Elle’s (Elle Ginter, the director) bedroom into a teenage bedroom inspired by the early 00s, complete with Avril Lavigne and Spice Girls posters. We shot this last at like midnight of the 3rd day of shooting and we were so loopy!

02:43 Elle’s cat jumped on the bed for one of the shots and she goes “Just keep singing, sing to the cat!” Haha

03:47 Elle Ginter and I shot the Millennium Angel video on an old camcorder in one afternoon in Venice Beach.

04:09 I wanted to capture the innocence of a girl trying to find herself, full of wonder at the possibilities LA has to offer and desperate to reinvent herself here.

04:18 It’s so fun just driving around and stopping to capture some footage at places that look fun - felt like what 2 teenage girls would actually do on a trip in LA.

05:09 There’s definitely some overlap between Serenity and me :) I love how nerdy and silly and fun she is. Feels like until now I’ve only really shared the more serious side of me through my music.

07:18 IOWLF was my favorite video to make so far!! I wrote the intro monologue one night after we shot the video and had Elle add it to the beginning before the song started. Love how it sets up the song and the story behind the video.

08:52 This video is a story about two people who feel weighed down by their lives in LA and meet on a beach where they’ve both gone to seek refuge. They decide to escape to the desert together.

09:00 I got to team up with my friend Jowaan Sullivan to choreograph and dance together and we had SO much fun! I learned a lot about acting on this shoot, something new for me.

09:17 I always make so many props for music videos - this time the “JUST MET” sign on the back of the jeep and the “TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES” quilt at the end.

09:25 I wanted this video to be pure and soft…it’s a romantic story but it’s more about friendship than anything else.

09:51 We chose to shoot it on black and white film because I wanted it to feel like a modern day Audrey Hepburn type film. I’ve also been very visually inspired by Sofia Coppola’s work, especially her work for various fashion house and perfume ads.

10:31 We shot this in Malibu and Joshua Tree!

10:43 I wanted to show through wardrobe that the Malibu scene was where we felt heavy and tired and cold, and the desert is where we felt light and free and happy. There’s something about finding LIFE in a desert that feels so significant and metaphorical of my own journey.

11:53 Love U Already! A song I wrote in 2014 and never imagined I’d record in 2021. So special to me.

12:07 My friend Qi-Yin made this amazing image for me to use as the background of this lyric video. It’s exactly what I had envisioned and represents the sweetness and beauty of dreaming of someone you’ve never met.

12:24 And if you can’t tell, I love pink, hehe.

12:38 This song is so intimate and personal, definitely a deep dive into Serenity’s diary, her most sacred hopes and dreams.

13:45 When we recorded this song we pictured people all over the world listening to it at night, for some reason. In bedrooms and cars and planes, such a late night airpods vibe :) We wanted it to transport you to a sweet and hopeful state of lucid dreaming.

14:49 We added this ending onto the song last year while recording it and it has proven to be one of my favorite moments when we play it live…such a jam sesh.
