First part of the history of Cuman/Polovtsy interactions with Kievan Rus. When looking at the modern map, Cumans were nomadizing in the region of southern Ukraine and souther Russia, their hubs were among other regions in Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea. Kievan Rus was taking the area of three modern states: Ukraine, Belarus and Russian Federation. However, the most of the described interactions were connected with three principalities: Kyiv, Chernihiv and Pereyaslav, which lies in modern northern Ukraine.

** Mosaic representations of Rus rulers are modern depictions on the walls of the Golden Gate metro station in Kyiv. I used them deliberately, as the metro stations were used as a shelter of Ukrainian civilians against the deathly bombs. Picture of Svyatoslav in reality depicts the third ruler of his name, not Svyatoslav Yaroslavich, but I put it there to keep the visual style.
