Aircraft carrier arrives in the UK for NATO Exercise Steadfast Defender 🇮🇹 🇬🇧

The Italian Navy Aircraft Carrier 'ITS Garibaldi' arrives in Portsmouth, UK, while on deployment for major NATO Exercise Steadfast Defender. The weather was dreadful.

The ITS Garibaldi, officially named Giuseppe Garibaldi, is an aircraft-carrying cruiser that would originally carry AV-8B Harrier II fighter/bombers, or other Short Take-Off Vertical Landing (STOVL) aircraft including helicopters, such as the Merlins seen in the video. The ship operates as an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) carrier and is due for replacement soon, having been laid down in 1981.

The Italian aircraft carrier is currently visiting His Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth while participating in Exercise Steadfast Defender, the largest NATO exercise to be held since the Cold War. Over 90,000 troops are participating with over 1,200 combat vehicles, over 80 aircraft and over 50 naval assets from all 31 allies and NATO partner, Sweden.
