How to stop your Mac from overheating

Follow these 5 steps to prevent your Mac from overheating:

1. Check CPU usage
Go to Applications – Utilities – Activity Monitor to see which apps and processes use the most CPU.

2. Close extra browser tabs
Open tabs consume memory and CPU power. Bookmark and close any tabs you don’t need right now.

3. Remove login & background items
Go to System Settings – General – Login Items & Extensions and review the list of apps that open at login and are allowed in the background.

4. Force Quit unused apps
Press Option-Command-Escape to open the Force Quit menu and stop apps you’re not using.

5. Keep macOS up to date
Go to System Settings – General – Software Update to check for and install any available macOS updates.
