Egg Tart Recipe (Hong Kong Style - Easy step by step)
Egg tarts are actually much easier to bake than I expected them to be.
Grant you, my egg tarts were not the prettiest, and may take closer ressemblance to a Pastéis de Nata than a Hong Kong Egg tart. This said, they still tasted delicious and their crust was more crunchy and flaky than what I could have hoped for!
In this week’s quarantine easy recipe video, we’re tackling together Babish’s famous egg tart recipe. The process took me a total of 5 hours, counting the initial few technical hiccups with the dough.
To replicate this egg tart recipe from Babish, you will need :
👉 A. For the dough
- Flour : 1.5 cups, or 150 grams
- Water : 2/3 cup or 157 grams
- Salt : pinch
- Sugar : I mentioned it, but you don’t need it for dough…. My bad
- Butter : a stick
👉 B. For the custard
- Eggs : 3 large ones
- Evaporated milk : 0.5 cup or 110 grams
- Water : 0.5 cup or 110 grams
- Sugar : 0.25 cup or 48 grams
- Vanilla extract : a few drop
