Folk Elijah! (side 1) [Rare Vinyl 1966]

For the first time in 50 years, we present to you a rare recording of the folk musical religious drama "Folk Elijah!. This was digitalized from a vinyl copy recorded by the Blackburn Presbyterian/Methodist Church musical group.
The idea of creating a modern religious drama by developing folk music around a known biblical theme was first conceived by the Rev. Doug McKenzie, minister of Blackburn Presbyterian Church. Rev. McKenzie took the idea to Marjory Spicer, a Blackburn house wife , well known to him for her musical understanding, and from their collaboration came this extraordinary production, folk Elijah!
Mrs. Spicer's word and music and Rev. McKenzie's narration tell in most arresting style of Elijah's battle to win for God the soul of the heathen followers of Baal. Produced by Max Grant, well known in Melbourne for the high standard of his work, Elijah was first performed by the Blackburn Methodist and Presbyterian Churches in October '65 to an entire season of capacity houses.
