2’s Complement Subtraction

Concept:
Subtraction is done by adding the 2’s complement of the number.

Steps:

Take 2’s complement of the subtrahend (B)
Add it to the minuend (A)
Ignore carry → result is positive
If no carry → take 2’s complement → result is negative
Guard Bits

Concept:
Guard bits are extra bits added during calculations to improve accuracy.

Why needed:

Prevent overflow
Reduce rounding errors
