British Home Children - The Search for a Stolen Identity pt.1
This is a documentary about the Myths and the Lies surrounding the British Home Children Deportation Scheme to Canada (1860-1950's). 150,000 children aged 6-14
were taken from their families, their names stripped and replaced with numbers, brainwashed and deported to Canada. While in care, they were caned, not allowed to speak, mentally abused and neglected. Their treatment in Canada compounded these experiences.
Over 150,000 British children were removed from their families during this time and sent to Canada with the promise of a better life. Instead they were sold to Canadian farmers as indentured servants where they lived like slaves throughout their childhood.
In this seven part documentary Clinical Psychologist Perry Snow talks about the documented experiences of his father Fred Snow and his search to find his stolen identity. Fred died not knowing who he was. In the 90's Perry continued the search and pressured the Church of England Waifs and Strays Society to release information. They resisted and gave him the run around. But after several years released the information his father had desperately sought.
This is one account of the 150,000 children by one of their 10 million Canadian descendants. Many died of abuse and neglect by Canadians and are buried in unmarked graves. They fought in two world wars and were never recognized. Stories of other Canadian atrocities are now in our school system's curriculum, but not the British Home Children.
