2026 Jeep Cherokee First Drive: New Engine & New Look. Was It Worth the Wait?

The all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee is here with a brand-new 1.6-liter turbo-four hybrid powertrain! I went to California to get a first look and first drive of the redesigned Cherokee to see how its new hybrid engine, updated interior, and bold new design hold up on real roads.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee marks a major return for one of Jeep's most iconic nameplates. Powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4 paired with two electric motors, the new Cherokee produces 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque, gets an estimated 37 mpg combined, and delivers over 500 miles of range on a single tank, no plug required. Standard all-wheel drive comes on every trim, and the interior has been completely redesigned with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and 10.25-inch digital cluster.

We drove it through the California canyons (the planned off-road portion was cancelled due to heavy rain), so this review focuses on the on-road driving experience, including ride quality, steering, power delivery, and how the hybrid system feels in the real world.
