In this The Thing That Should Not Be guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this incredible track off of Metallica's Master of Puppets album note-for-note.

The tuning is D standard, which is every string tuned down one whole-step. Those notes are, starting from the 6th string, D G C F A D.

This one is one of the easier Metallica guitar songs to play rhythm wise. The riff are HUGE sounding though, it is just really incredible they were coming up with this stuff in the mid-eighties.

Kirk Hammett's solo is short but sweet with a lot of whammy bar work and a really cool exotic sounding lick that is harmonized. I will take you through the whole thing phrase-by-phrase.
