WHAT DOES AN EMBRYOLOGIST DO?
The embryologist is a key member of our team at the Fertility Center of Oregon. On a basic level, an Embryologist combines sperm and egg samples from patients to create embryos. After the embryos have been created they are analyzed under a microscope to determine their viability. The most viable embryos are safely stored in our clinic's laboratory for future fertility treatments.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO HAVE PEOPLE'S EMBRYOS IN YOUR CARE?
Clinical Embryologist Matt Gilman takes his job very seriously and understands the preciousness of the technical work he does in the Fertility Center of Oregon embryology labs. "My kids give me joy and I want people to have that joy," Matt says on the importance of handling patient's embryos with care and precision.

WHAT IS INTRACYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION (ICSI)?
ICSI is a sperm injection technique we use at the Fertility Center of Oregon in conjunction with in vitro fertilization (IVF) for the treatment of male infertility. This process allows a single sperm to be injected directly into the inside of an egg. This has revolutionized the treatment of infertility, especially for men with severe "male factor" sperm problems.

HOW DO YOU ENSURE A SAFE LABORATORY ENVIORNMENT?
Lab safety is of the utmost importance to the Fertility Center of Oregon. Our Clinical Embryologist Matt Gilman maintains lab safety to ensure the correct injection of partners' sperm and eggs through meticulous documentation and protection measures. From requiring two signatures to inject sperm into an egg to color-coded chart systems, the Fertility Center of Oregon ensures that the correct sperm and eggs are used to create embryos in our labs. The Fertility Center of Oregon also has an alarm system and backup generators to ensure that sperm, eggs and embryos are stored in optimal environments.

The journey through infertility can be a long road. Whether it is IUI, IVF, or third party reproduction, the team at The Fertility Center of Oregon (FCO) is here to help you navigate your way.
