Imam Ibrahim Amin, Perspectives on Compassion in Islam

On June 18th the Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion hosted Imam Ibrahim Amin of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies for a morning seminar introducing perspectives on compassion in Islam.

This event is one of an ongoing series of talks examining compassion across traditions. The purpose of this series is to introduce perspectives on compassion from different schools of thought, both religious and secular.

Ibrahim Amin began memorising the Qur’an in Kuwait, where he was born and grew up, and then in India. After this, he enrolled onto an advanced course in traditional Islamic sciences at a seminary in India, where he read elementary Persian and Arabic. He completed the rest of his studies in the UK at a seminary near Manchester, graduating in 2003. He worked as an Imam as well as in the management of an Islamic secondary school in London, before moving to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies as an Imam in 2014. He also serves as one of the Muslim chaplains for the University of Oxford. His research interests include Qur’anic exegesis and the history of classical Islamic thought.
