In a first of its kind of initiative, MoRTH has introduced a 5 mm table-top red marking on a two-kilometre stretch of NH-45 (Bhopal–Jabalpur) in Madhya Pradesh to enhance safety on forested highway stretches. The red zone on the stretch passing through Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve slows down vehicles and alerts drivers that they are entering a wildlife-sensitive corridor.
Twenty five underpasses have also been constructed on the 11.9-kilometre section of the highway to help animals cross safely without entering traffic zones, a major step toward protecting wildlife and reducing collision risks. These underpasses have been built strategically based on patterns of animal movement.
