#shorts How Mother Vessels Could Redraw India’s Trade Routes #short #shortvideo #india

The ‘King of Spices’, India, has been stuck in a maritime mess, and its logistics costs are burning a hole in its pocket. As per a report by the Indian Ports Association, 75% of our freight can't sail directly and has to take detours at international ports, making homegrown industries and traders vulnerable to logistics costs. It leaves India no other option but to use 'feeder' vessels as taxis to foreign hubs, making its exports less competitive.
The primary factor that determines its ability to dock massive vessels is the draft: the available water depth. The deeper the draft, the greater the chances to anchor mother vessels. Although the Vizhinjam Port is a game-changer, India needs more mega ports with 16-metre deep drafts to cheapen exports, strengthen trade, and leave India’s destiny in its own hands.
