Nations League 2018/19 • The Netherlands • Our Story

When the news got out in 2014 there was going to be a new compitition in form of the Nations League, excitement was hard to find. It got even worse when it was announced the Netherlands were placed in a group with France and Germany. On top of this the Dutch squad was performing badly for years.
During the Nations League though everything changed under Ronald Koeman; the new head coach. The best teams in the world were beaten convincingly and they even got the to finals with the help of their new stars; Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong, Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt.
Even though Portugal was too strong, the overall consensus was positive; the footballing world has to take the Netherlands back into account.
Toen in 2014 het nieuws naar buiten kwam dat er met de Nations League een nieuwe competitie in het leven werd geroepen, was lang niet iedereen enthousiast. Zeker niet toen bekend werd dat Nederland in een poule kwam met Frankrijk en Duitsland. Daar kwam bij dat het Nederlands Elftal al jaren erg slecht presteerde. Maar tijdens Nations League veranderde alles onder de nieuwe bondscoach Ronald Koeman. De absolute wereldtop werd overtuigend verslagen en aan de hand van nieuwe toppers als Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong, Virgil van Dijk en Matthijs de Ligt werd de finale bereikt. Hoewel daarin van Portugal werd verloren, is de algemene conclusie positief: de voetbalwereld houdt weer rekening met Oranje.
