Today's an exciting day - after over a decade of playing the guitar, I finally own a Gibson! And to be brutally honest...it's a bit of a disappointment. In this video I'll be sharing my honest reaction to the instrument and my thoughts on the company's future. Failing electronics, loose parts, and an inexcusable quality control checklist are just the tip of the iceberg.

For context, the guitar was offered at a great price from Musician's Friend in an effort to completely liquidate the remaining "old management" stock of Gibson. After filing for chapter 12 bankruptcy, the famous guitar manufacturer needed to change directions and elect a new CEO. Since then, there has been promising change in the brand's 2020 line up and I'm excited see where they go from here.

With all of the backlash I've said above, I should mention that I do intend on keeping the guitar. After setting it up properly and tending to the issues mentioned, it sounds and plays great. Once I file the warranty and have the fret ends/wiring fixed, I imagine that the guitar will be with me for a long time.

Some explanation for the title/thumbnail:
The SG Special is not discontinued, however the 2018 design with the mini humbuckers has been. The guitar was only offered like this in 2018 and it failed miserably. Gibson originally priced it at $1,830, then dropped it to $1,200 and so on. I bought the guitar for $550 when the seller realized they truly weren't able to get rid of this guitar.
"Bankruptcy SG" - to me, this guitar represents the moment when Gibson not listening to the consumers and all their quality control issues finally caught up to them. This guitar is proof of the negligence that caused them to file bankruptcy in 2018.
