Sangeang Api: Island of Fire

Sangeang Api Volcano is administratively located on Sangeang Island, Wera District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The study area is located on an unspoiled volcanic island after the largest eruption in 1985. Strangegraphy of Mount Sangeang Api consists of 9 units of Holocene volcanic rocks and coastal alluvial deposits. The morphology developed in the area is mainly controlled by volcanic activity such as barranco, lower volcanic slopes, central volcanic slopes, volcanic valleys, laharik rivers, and coastal plains. The purpose of this study is to integrate the geotourism and geocultural potential in the area. New potentials found as geotourism sites are Lava Stream, Toro Amandaha Bay, Barranco, Sori Solah Valley, Sori Solah Waterfall, Kerakal Beach, Melibe Mountains Reef, Freshwater Springs, and Sunset Point. This area is also supported by unique local geocultural potential such as Tembe Nggoli and Tembe Me'e hand-woven, traditional fan dances, Rimpu Mpida clothing, and traditional boat making. This study uses qualitative and quantitative descriptions which include geological data, geomorphological data, geotourism and geocultural data collection, interviews with local adat leaders, also supported by petrographic analysis, geological structure analysis, SWOT analysis, visualization, and media publications. The results show that both aspects, geotourism and geoculture cannot stand on their own and function to complement one another. With good packaging and integration, Sangeang Api mountain tourism is very likely to be superior tourism in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
