John was calling the world to confess their sinfulness, turn away from it and receive the forgiveness that comes only from the Lord. Through the Church, God not only calls us to be prepared and repent, but He prepares us to be always repenting. For whenever one is repenting, one is simply living the life of a Christian, the life of Baptism wherein we are always being forgiven and delivered into a life of good works in service to our neighbors. When we repent, we enjoy the peace He alone can offer. We wait with Peace! Rejoice, Christ is coming!
