Nicholas Shaxson: Tackling Global Monopolies

Nick Shaxson is a British investigative journalist and author of Treasure Islands and The Finance Curse. He has been a prominent collaborator in the Tax Justice Network, a think tank and advocacy group focused on the harmful effects of tax avoidance, tax competition and tax havens. He has lived at various times in India, Brazil, England, Lesotho, Spain, Angola, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Since 1993, he has written on global business and politics for Vanity Fair, the Financial Times, Reuters, the Economist and Economist Intelligence Unit, International Affairs, Foreign Affairs, The American Interest, BBC, Africa Confidential, African Energy and others. In 2012, the International Tax Review named him one of the "Global Tax 50" most influential people in international tax.
