Henderson, Nevada: Things to know about moving to Henderson | Living in Las Vegas

HENDERSON, EXPLAINED. Here is a detailed breakdown of what you need to know about moving to Las Vegas, particularly the Henderson area. Although Henderson is its own city, it is still considered to be part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. I live in Henderson and it takes me about 20-25 minutes to get to the Las Vegas Strip.

As mentioned in my LV Neighborhoods video (For those who missed it: (https://youtu.be/9gghhJX6eOA)– Henderson is one of the better places in Las Vegas to live. There is an overwhelming abundance of great businesses and RESTAURANTSSS. (This might have to be a video too... or should I start a blog?) And let me tell you, the food options are q u a l i t y . Probably my favorite part of living here. A lot of my favorite food spots around town actually have broken ground on secondary locations in Henderson. If it's a really poppin' place in Vegas, there's a good chance there's another location in Henderson.

There are so many beautiful views of Las Vegas you can get just by driving around. Driving into Vegas from Old Henderson, Stephanie St./The 215, and Anthem are just a few places you can really get some jaw-droppers.

WHAT I DON'T LOVE: Naturally, what comes with any rapidly developing area, is a poop-ton of construction. Henderson is certainly expanding its boundaries, and while I'm thankful that Vegas overall has some of the best quality roads, any construction site is a serious pain. I've had to re-route entire commutes that add a lot of extra time just based on construction conditions. I've driven over stray nails and had to replace all four of my tires (one of them, twice!) in completely separate instances.

Another thing is, what comes with the generally low crime... are really finicky police. Word of advice: DO NOT SPEED IN HENDERSON. I've heard stories of friends and coworkers getting speeding tickets for going 5, 4, 3, and even 1 MILE over the speed limit. *facepalm emoji*

I also know someone who got a traffic violation for cutting through a school parking lot to get to another street. There are consistent, inconspicuous speed traps on certain streets, especially those close to construction zones. Moral of the story: Always practice safe driving, but be extra cautious within Henderson limits. I once got pulled over on St. Rose Pkwy and was pooping myself because I knew all the stories, but thankfully was let off with a warning because it was actually Nevada Highway Patrol. Not too sure I would have met the same fate with Henderson PD.
