Hinged Lid Box

This tutorial shows you how to make a sturdy and decorative cardboard hinged lid box. This classic box has so many uses, including keeping your handmade books in. It would also make for a fun treasure box for your kids or a great gift box.

** BTW, I haven't made the tutorial yet about how to use the worksheets for this project. The current link in my video goes to the worksheet tutorial for the Slipcase. These are different worksheets, but how to use them is basically the same. **
The worksheets shown in the video are available on my website. These worksheets are available using either Imperial Measurements (inches) or Metric Measurements (millimeters).

If you're tired of cutting bookboard by hand (particularly the thicker bookboard used for making boxes) this inexpensive guillotine works wonderfully and is a real time and hand-saver: https://amzn.to/39DNUVE
It’s the one piece of equipment that I would rescue if my studio were to catch on fire. :)

Here is a great source for the bookboard, or binder's board, used to construct the box. You can get it in several different thicknesses, and you'll probably want a thick board (like this ~3mm board) so your box is nice and sturdy.

Here's a link to the soft weights you see me using in the video:

Also a great source for PVA adhesive:

If you are making your own bookcloth, here's a source for the rice paper you'll need:

You can also buy wheat starch to make your bookcloth paste. This has the gluten removed which makes it a bit more resistant to insects. (Not that I've ever had an issue with insects eating my books :)
