How do alpha-glucosidase inhibitors work? (Pharmacology for Nursing). This is one classification of drugs that is used to help manage type II diabetes.

Medication administration is a primary responsibility of nursing and understanding how drugs work in the body, what disease processes they treat, and signs and symptoms to monitor for are elements of safe medication administration
Glucoamylase is an enzyme produced by enterocytes found in the intestinal tract, along with maltase, isomaltase, and sucrase. These enzymes are responsible for breaking down complex carbohydrates into simple carbohydrates so the body can easily absorb them. Understanding the mechanism of action for drugs in this category, such as acarbose (which I use in an short story) helps nurses with patient education and care.
Review the anatomy and physiology of the intestinal villa and microvilli and learn a story you can use with your patients to help them understand how these drugs work in the body.
