Friday is Beloved Community Day, the schoolwide celebration of Dr. King’s legacy.
This morning, third grade prepared by starting work on a public art installation, to debut Friday.
Throughout the school, teachers connect the arts with social justice work by teaching about the role of music, painting, literature, poems, dance and theater have historically played in freedom movements around the world.
For these lessons, of course, students get their hands dirty making art of their own - though they don’t usually get quite as dirty as the third grade did today.
