The Qu-series Digital Mixer is a perfect entry-level mixer, and an ideal option for anyone looking to transition from analog mixing to digital. This is a great option for your home studio, small houses of worship, coffee shops, or small restaurants. In the video we are using a Qu-16 digital mixer, mounted inside of a portable rack from SKB. It can also be mounted into an installed rack. The Qu-series is a great transition from analog to digital mixing because it features tactile knobs and faders, providing that analog feel while still being able to use digital features like dynamics and effects.

The SQ-series is the next step up from the Qu-series. It has many of the same features and capabilities of the top-tier products from Allen & Heath, but in a smaller and more cost-effective package. The SQ-7 is featured in the video, and there are also SQ-5 and SQ-6 models available. While the number of faders changes with each model, the inputs all stay the same with 48-input channels and 32-buses. The SQ-series includes the FPGA processing found in Allen & Heath’s flagship dLive console. FPGA stands for Field Programmable Gate Array, which means you can get sub-millisecond latency during your live shows. The SQ-series is also a great option for your studio as it can control your DAW, which stands for Digital Audio Workstation, and also acts as a USB interface.

Next up is the Avantis. When you first look at the Avantis you’ll notice the two large touch screens which feature the Continuity UI. And while it looks like the Avantis seen in the video has been put into a protective case, that’s actually how the Avantis comes from Allen & Heath. The exterior is a full-metal chassis with a rugged exoskeleton for extreme durability.

That brings us to Allen & Heath’s flagship series, the dLive digital mixing system. Featured in the video is the dLive S5000 Surface and a dLive DM64 MixRack. While the surface is the typical console you are used to seeing with a mixer, it’s completely optional with the dLive series. The MixRack actually is the brains of the system, with everything you need to control the show. The Surface just makes it easier to access those controls while also providing additional I/O. dLive systems are split into two different categories: S-class and C-class. The S-class is for larger applications while the C-class is typically smaller and more affordable. But, they still work with each other. So you can use a C-class rack with an S-class surface, and vice-versa!

And no matter which console you choose, Allen & Heath has a variety of I/O expansion options for you to choose from, including portable stage boxes and installed wall mounts. To find the expansion option that’s right for you, there’s the Everything I/O tool available on the Allen & Heath website.
