‘Lord of the Rings’ Timeline Explained: Complete Middle-earth Timeline

Now, saying that the history of Tolkien’s universe is complicated, would clearly be a major, major understatement! After all the history and the world of Arda is so vast and huge that makes Tolkien’s universe one of the most fascinating in all of fiction. So, on that note welcome back to Factholic! And today we bring to you a complete comprehensive timeline, to help take you through the entire history of Arda and Middle-earth. However, please keep in mind that quite a few times the on-screen versions conflict with the books, so this is actually much more of a general guide than a document set in stone.
Also a note on time periods: Between the beginning of time and the First Age, years are given in Valian years. Valian years last between 9 and 10 regular years, according to Christopher Tolkien. Not all events have precise dates.
