Flying in REAL ICING CONDITIONS in a Cirrus SR22 FIKI (KARB - KFRG) #cirrus #cirruslife

Wonder what flying in icing conditions look like? Please come see it for yourself on the return leg of our Ann Arbor Football weekend trip (See "Part 1 Took 26 Years to Fulfill a Promise..."). From the weather briefing, we expected icing levels around 4,000 to 6,000 feet and improving halfway through. Knowing my plane is FIKI (Fly Into Known Icing) equipped and after carefully reviewing the weather, I felt comfortable to proceed. Even though some Cirrus SR22s are FIKI equipped, conditions such as SLD (Supercooled Liquid Droplets) can overwhelm any anti-icing system. PLEASE DO NOT FLY THROUGH ICING CONDITIONS WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING AND APPROVED AIRCRAFT.

An excellent Icing Awareness Course is available on Cirrus’s Learning Portal: www.cirrusapproach.com
