In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 4 Topic 2 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 4 (1800-1848).
This unit begins with the further cementing of political parties as Thomas Jefferson took office in 1801. The Federalists and the Democratic Republican seemingly had endless battles over U.S. domestic and foreign policy.
On the domestic side, Jefferson's Embargo Act and his repeal of the Whiskey Tax enflamed tensions. Additionally, Jefferson contradicted his Democratic Republican principles in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.
Foreign policy conflicts included strife with the Barbary States and the Barbary pirates, and going a little further out from Jefferson, the War of 1812. This war was fiercely opposed by the Federalists who gathered at the Hartford Convention to contemplate secession of the New England states from the Union. So it got saucy.
If you have any questions, leave them below and Heimler shall answer forthwithly.
This video is aligned with the AP U.S. History Curriculum and Exam Description for Unit 4 Topic 2, and the following Key Concepts: 4.1.I.A, 4.1.I.B, 4.1.I.A.i
