Men's Triple Jump. British Grand Prix. Diamond League. Gateshead International Stadium, UK, 7/13/21

The Men's Triple Jump event got underway at 17:51 at Gateshead International Stadium in Gateshead, Great Britain on July 13, 2021, just ten days before the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games. On that day the Temperature range was between 55°F - 68°F (13°C - 20°C). According to Diamond League Official Records, the wind speed varied between -1.9 m/s to +1.4 m/s. Gateshead International Stadium is located along the shore of the Tyne River, at Sea Level.

Side Note: a negative wind speed velocity means the athletes had a headwind. A positive wind speed velocity means the athletes had a tailwind. End Side Note.

The event featured a line-up of eight athletes, six of them Tokyo-Bound.

Side Note: The end of the Tokyo Olympics Qualifying Period was June 29, 2021, so, at the time of the British Grand Prix the list of athletes bound to the Tokyo Olympics had already been set. The Tokyo Olympics Qualifying Standard was 17.14 meters. End of Side Note.

The athletes participating at the British Grand Prix bound to Tokyo were:

Pedro Pichardo (Portugal), Tobia Bocchi (Italy), Tiago Pereira (Portugal), Pablo Torrijos (Spain), Almir dos Santos (Brazil), former University of Louisville Cardinal Benjamin "Ben" Williams (Great Britain).

The remaining two athletes would not participate in the Tokyo Olympics, but, their World Ranking in the Men's Triple Jump by World Athletics is the following:

Nikolaos Andrikopoulos (Greece), Ranked Number 50
Former Harvard University Crimson Efe Uwaifo (Great Britain), Ranked Number 100

In the Diamond League Triple Jump Competition Format, the athletes compete in a preliminary 5 Rounds to qualify for the Final Three. Whoever wins the Final Three round wins the competition. For the athletes reaching the Final Three, their best mark obtained during the preliminary 5 Rounds is put on hold, until the final order gets settled during the Final Three round (you will see what I am talking about clearly when you check the Final Results Table below at the end). So, it's a Winner Take All Format.

Final Three Qualifying:

Pedro Pichardo (Portugal) qualified as 1st Placed, by jumping 17.29m (-0.1 m/s) on his first jump (Round 1).

Tobia Bocchi (Italy) qualified as 2nd Placed, by jumping 17.04m (+0.1 m/s) on his first jump (Round 1).

Tiago Pereira (Portugal) qualified as 3rd Placed, by jumping 17.11m (+1.2 m/s) on his fifth jump (Round 5).

Final Three Results

1. Pedro Pichardo (Portugal), 17.50m (+1.0 m/s)
2. Tobia Bocchi (Italy), 16.60m (0.0)
3. Tiago Pereira (Portugal), 16.46m (-1.1 m/s)

So, based on the results of the Final Three, the athletes get their final positions listed on the Final Results Table, with their Best Mark obtained during the entire competition. An example of this is Tiago Pereira's Final Three mark, compared to the mark he qualified for the Final Three with which was his best mark during the entire competition, so, that is the mark that is listed for him on the Final Results Table.
