VFW Post Revenue Streams: How Your Post Really Brings In Money and Manages Risk

In this training, we break down typical VFW Post revenue streams so you can see exactly where your money really comes from and how to manage the risks. You’ll see why a strong Post budget starts with understanding income sources like dues, donations, fundraisers, hall rentals, grants, canteen revenue, and other activities.

We walk through three practical steps you can take using just one sheet of paper:

• List each revenue source on its own line with last year’s total next to it
• Put a star next to any source that’s more than 25% of your income (your “big rocks”)
• Ask yourself: “If this one source dropped by half, what would we cut first?”

At the workshop, we’ll show you a simple way to label each income stream as steady, seasonal, or one-time so you can plan ahead instead of hoping everything works out. If you’re unsure how to categorize a source or worried your Post is too dependent on one stream, you can send your list to qmgeneral@vfw.org and ask for guidance before you lock in your new budget.
