Seung Hee Oh, assistant curator of Chinese art in Arts of Asia, explores one of the most generous patrons of Buddhism art in China, Empress Dowager Cisheng of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), and her commission of King Gao’s Avalokitesvara Sutra in 1590.
