Ford Mondeo MK4 Instrument Cluster Blackout fix

Mondeo MK4 instrument cluster fix / dash fix / speedometer fix, including display removal. My (now sold) daily driver Mondeo MK4 developed an intermittent or random issue of the instrument cluster going black while driving. This was quite a frightening thing to happen on the highway! The issue became more and more frequent, and while a "gentle" tap on the dash always fixed the issue momentarily, I decided to take a peek inside to see if I can sort it out.
