Coronavirus: Trump supporters gather outside Walter Reed, boaters rally following COVID-19 diagnosis
Supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump stood outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 4, as cars honked in support of a speedy recovery for the president, who is being treated for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, hundreds of boaters on Maryland's Eastern shore and in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, revved their engines and cut through the water with Trump flags flying in a show of solidarity.
Trump, 74, was flown to Walter Reed on Friday in what the White House said was a precautionary measure. Doctors treating Trump sent conflicting signals about the severity of his condition on Sunday, hours before the president surprised supporters outside the hospital with an impromptu motorcade.
The president spent much of the year downplaying the risks of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has infected 7.4 million Americans, killed more than 209,000, and caused an economic downturn that has thrown millions out of work.
