Interruption to silence from heaven.
When Samuel was born, he came as a violent interruption to silence from heaven. At the end of Judges, Israel had gone into idolatry and sin. There had been a period of prophetic silence. God said, “If you don’t listen to me, I am not going to talk to you anymore.” This is how 1 s Samuel opens up, the word of the Lord was rare. 1 Samuel 3:1 So was when John the Baptist was born. Like Samuel, John the Baptist’ birth interrupts the silence. Now the time has come for the one projected in Malachi, the next prophet. His birth
also has 9 months of silence from Zechariah who was unable to speak.
